Let's talk covering horse's ears.

Let's talk covering horse's ears.

LET'S BE HONEST ABOUT HORSE'S EARS - they're not naturally meant to be covered. That's why they have hair on and in them - to protect them from the elements on the outside and prevent dust and dirt and grass seeds and freezing wind from tunnelling down the inside.

However, we all know that horse's ears get clipped for a variety of reasons, and as such, they can then require added protection. Or it could just be that your horse is out in some really bleak weather, and could do with some extra warmth.
Or the UV might be really high, and you have a light coloured horse who burns easily. We have considered all factors, and gone with lycra ears in our hoods, for comfort and function, rather than a heavier material.

With this in mind, we decided to do something different with our hooded combos, because, as you know, here at Earlwood, we like to be a little bit different. We traded the stiff, thicker, traditional ripstop fabric ears for a lightweight, more breathable flag fabric. This still gives the ears the protection you're looking for, but in a lighter, more comfortable version.

Just think about how you'd feel with a heavy fabric on your ears, that also somewhat muted the sounds around you. If you're like me and have a 2yr old that can throw a spectacular tanty sometimes when his toy tractors don't behave themselves, then this might actually suit you... 😆 However you might also miss the sweet, soft little Mummy's that just melt your heart when you hear them.

Before you buy your next hooded combo, or hood with ears, put yourself in your horse's shoes, or barefoot hooves, and think about what you'd prefer.
