You already know keeping your rugs clean is important, but a few clever tricks can make it even easier.
We’ve rounded up our top 7 rug washing tips, and there just might be one in here that saves you time, effort, or a whole lot of stray horse hair in your washing machine!
A spare rug is always a good idea, in case your rug doesn't end up drying on wash days, or you still need your horse rugged for the day. It's also handy for the inevitable damage your horse will one day do to your favourite rug...
This saves buckles getting lost or damaged in the wash, and prevents velcro from snagging fabric.
Just like your own clothes don't wash as well when you cram every last item in the machine, neither will your rugs. To prevent having to wash a second time, don't overload the machine, so the rug can get a quality cleanse!
This is also an important thing to remember purely from a comfort level for your horse. We often forget to check the tips of the ears, and you'd be surprised how much can build up in there.
The last thing you want is a nice clean rug irritating your horse because of a strong detergent. A fresh rug, should be a fresh rug, and not cause any aggravation.
We've all been shocked at just how much hair comes out when the days start to lengthen again. It's like brushing a whole second horse out of the coat! Hair build up can cause rubbing, so keep a clean rug in the rotation and brush, brush, brush!
If you can afford it, this could just save your relationship... ;-) if nothing else, it will save your own clothes from becoming an itch fest! Failing that, it could pay to run a quick rinse cycle through the machine and clean the filter out after washing your rugs.
